Some dogs come into our lives quietly. Some come wounded, broken and afraid. And then there are dogs like Pikoo — who arrive carrying the worst cruelty humans are capable of, and still somehow teach us what love, forgiveness and joy look like.
Pikoo’s journey to BCS began in the most heartbreaking way. Someone had tried to hurt her terribly by tying her face and neck with barbed wires. The wires had cut into her skin and caused immense pain and suffering. It was not an accident. It was not neglect. It was cruelty.
Even today, we ask ourselves the same painful questions.
Who would do this to such a friendly dog?
Who would tie barbed wire around her face and neck?
Who would try to strangle a helpless animal to death?
And for what reason?
These questions still bother all of us at BCS. They are not easy to forget. But Pikoo’s story did not end with cruelty. Because Pikoo survived.
When she came to BCS, she needed urgent treatment, care and protection. Her physical wounds were severe, but the emotional wounds were just as deep. It took months of dedicated care, rehabilitation and healing for Pikoo to recover. The BCS team worked patiently with her every day ; treating her injuries, helping her regain her strength, and giving her the safety she had been denied.
Slowly, Pikoo began to heal.
And then, something beautiful happened.
As her body recovered, her real personality began to return. Her usual fun, mischievous, loving self started coming out. The scared and wounded dog who had arrived at BCS began to transform into the Pikoo we know today; confident, naughty, demanding, affectionate and full of life.
After everything she had been through, BCS made a decision. Pikoo would not be released back to the streets. The people who tried to kill her could try again. Her safety could not be risked. So BCS became her forever home.
And what a forever home she has made for herself.
Today, Pikoo is not just a rescued dog at BCS. She is family. She is our child. She is our queen.
In fact, the BCS team has officially given her the title she deserves – Queen Pikoo.
And like any true queen, Pikoo has her own rules.
She is terribly pampered by every staff member at BCS. Her naughtiness is always forgiven. She does what she wants, when she wants, and exactly how she wants. She chooses where she wants to sleep. She decides when she wants to eat. She selects which room she wants to occupy. And if she decides that a particular dog or cat should not be in the same room as her, then everyone quickly understands that Queen Pikoo has spoken.
Most days, Pikoo can be found sleeping in the Admin Head’s cabin as if it belongs to her. She walks in and settles down like a senior team member who has important responsibilities. She meets visitors with complete confidence. She participates in staff meetings. And during meetings, you can often spot her sitting comfortably on the sofa, looking around as though she is personally ensuring that BCS is running smoothly.
No one questions her authority.
Everyone simply accepts that Pikoo is in charge.
And perhaps, after everything she has survived, she has earned that right.
Pikoo’s presence at BCS brings joy to everyone. She has a way of making people smile even on difficult days. She reminds us that rescue work is not only about pain and suffering. It is also about recovery, personality, humour, healing and the incredible spirit of animals who refuse to let cruelty define them.
Dogs like Pikoo show us the extraordinary forgiving and loving nature of animals. She suffered terribly at the hands of humans. She had every reason to fear us, reject us and never trust again. But instead, Pikoo chose love. She chose to trust. She chose to become part of the BCS family.
That is what makes her so special.
Pikoo is more than a survivor. She is a symbol of hope for every stray dog who has faced cruelty on the streets. She represents every animal who has been hurt, abandoned, neglected or abused – and still finds the courage to heal.
At BCS, Pikoo is safe. She is loved. She is adored. She is protected. She is allowed to be herself completely. No one forces her to fit into anyone’s idea of how a dog should behave. She is accepted exactly as she is – naughty, funny, affectionate, bossy, dramatic and deeply loved.

Her rescue did not end with her treatment. Her recovery did not end when her wounds healed. Pikoo continues to need food, medical care, comfort, safety, attention and love every single day.
