Adopting an animal is a lifetime commitment.
Read on to understand our adoption process and how we ensure that every stray animal under our care finds a loving and responsible forever home.
Our adoption process
The adoption process at BCS Pune is thoughtfully designed to ensure safety and well-being of the animal getting adopted, readiness and responsibility of the adopter, and of course, a lasting happy match for both.
Before you adopt
Before you adopt, please ensure you are able to provide a stable, loving environment. Adopting a pet requires time, patience, emotional commitment and financial stability – it’s a promise of a lifetime.
Adopting a puppy/kitten
To adopt a puppy/kitten, you will have to visit the BCS Pune facility to meet and greet the puppy/kitten before finalising the adoption. Puppies/kittens have a “blank slate”, making it easier to socialize, train and bond with them at an early age.
Adoption an adult dog
Adopting an adult stray dog typically requires multiple visits to the BCS Pune facility. Many adult dogs often come with past history of abandonment, trauma and abuse. Such dogs require careful bonding to ensure that adoption is final, permanent and successful. We conduct socialisation and training programs for such dogs to become adoptable and then they are shown to prospective homes.
When on your multiple visits, we want you to spend quality time with the dog – observe their energy levels, behaviour towards you, interactions with your family members including children, and existing pets. These visits will help you to understand if their personality aligns with your lifestyle. We want to avoid any cases of dog being re-abandoned or returned to us.
Adoption process steps
1. Visit BCS Pune to meet the pup/dog/kitten.
2. Spend time especially with the adult dog.
3. Complete paperwork.
4. Finalize the adoption.
5. Take the pup/kitten/dog to their forever home.
Please note – Adopting an adult dog/pup/kitten from BCS Pune is absolutely FREE. There is no adoption charge. The animal is also vaccinated and sterilised, ensuring they are healthy and ready to step into their forever homes.
Our goal is to find a safe, loving home for the animal under our care.
